Holy Week is the holiest week for the Catholics. It is also one of the busiest in Lucban, the other one being the Lucban San Isidro Pahiyas Festival.
Since the start of the week, thousands of pilgrims flock to Kamay ni Hesus to pray, meditate, be healed, or simply stroll around and gaze upon a hundred life-size images of saints or climb the hill of the Via Doloroso. Going up the 365+ steps hill (that’s only one way, not including the steps sideways along the pathways going to the scene of Stations of the Cross) is exhausting but spiritually relieving as along the way up, you can stop and pray the Way of the Cross before the 14 Stations of the Cross. Atop the hill is breathtaking upon seeing a birds eyeview of Lucban and reaching the 50-ft image of the Ascending Christ, one of the largests in the world.
Going to the Kamay ni Hesus during this time of the year is a sacrifice in itself. As thousands flock to this famous shrine, one has to hurdle up to 3 hours of human and vehicular traffic, both inbound and outbound, with the heaviest occuring on Good Friday. Pilgrims are advise to go to Lucban as early as possible so you can also find a good parking space.
